Coming “Soon”: Lip Synched Avatars in Second Life

Major priority was given in the JIRA to creating lip synch to avatars using voice, a new enhancement to the Second Life viewer. I haven’t tested the plug-in, which is available as an external piece of code, partly because I don’t use voice (I keep meaning to buy a mic!), but an example can be found here including a video and the code.

Per the site:

Although SecondLife now has Voice Chat, avatars lips do not move. Instead, we see green waves above their heads to indicate who is speaking. And, although this helps pick out the speaker in a crowd, it really is not useful for machinima.

Mm Alder has implemented a babble loop for voice visualization in Second Life, adding lipsync to Second Life!

And another example which is, um, a bit irritating but nonetheless:

That is interesting for in-world communication. I cannot imagine somebody using crappy SL voice for machinima, though. If you need it to sound at least decent, you have to over-dub.
