Rosedale Being Replaced as CEO

I won’t even dig into this, the bloggers will be all over this one, but interesting timing on the heels of concerns about whether Linden has the vision to operate as a company rather than just some kind of idealistic dream.

Linden Lab Chief Executive Philip Rosedale said on Friday the company he founded has begun a search for a new CEO with more operational and management expertise.

Rosedale will become chairman of the Linden Lab board when his successor is found, replacing Mitch Kapor, who will remain a board member and the company’s largest investor. Rosedale said he will also keep a full-time role at the company working on product development and strategy.

Ironic this, it struck me a some time ago that if this was a listed company the shareholders would be on the brink of voting him off the board. I give him credit and respect for his self-realisation and for doing the right thing (IMHO).

My worry? He hires a fall-guy. He hires Torley in a suit. Someone who talks the same talk and walks the same walk and takes the daggers when nothing changes, leaving Philip wound-free and ‘visioneering’.

My hope? He hires someone with ears for the residents, eyes for the future and who is able, even enjoys, kicking some ass…at least for a little while.

This could get very interesting or very depressing. :-)
