A handy 10-point argument for the validity of cybersex is made by Bonnie Ruberg over at the Village Voice.
Cybersex, and the ‘open-ended’ virtual worlds in which it exists have a reputation as being a home to sex fiends, crackpots and plain ol’ psychos. But does it have to be this way? Bonnie doesn’t think so. What virtual sex needs is an image makeover, someone to counteract TV shows such as To Catch A Predator and show the world that, as most people already know, cybersex is good, clean fun.
As Ruberg points out, cybersex is good for you and allows safe exploration of all sorts of fetishes and kinks. Ruberg’s research led to an interesting article published in Escapist Magazine about ‘kink’ in Second Life.
The Lindens often have enough trouble countering bad press let alone generating positive stories, but this one seems like a no-brainer. Instead of talking up age verification, Philip should come clean and tout the magic of Second Life as a platform where work can be combined with the pursuit of kinks and fetishes (well, MOST kinks and fetishes – can you say “proximity”?) and spin it as an inalienable right in a free virtual society.
