Second Life Search Tool for External Web Sites

Nice little application from InfoIsland allows you to embed the Second Life search in an external Web page, returning the results through a browser. Useful for any number of things – easy checking of placement of ads and search strings, planning specific activities without logging into SL, or just plain surfing.

You can embed the search button in your browser using the icon here.

I’ll post more about the idea of the geography of imagination later – I’ve come to think that the idea of a ‘world’ is no longer useful to Second Life. I’d be curious how many people browse the world using the map, and wonder whether this doesn’t leave an absence of conceptual geography. Being able to run searches external to the grid, however, might also allow tagging, etc. so it will be interesting to think through the idea of a mash-up of virtual and ‘flat’ representations of the spaces represented by Second Life.
